WHS Announces 2008 Award Winners

Outstanding achievements of individuals at the forefront of wound healing research recognized at the 2008 Meeting in San Diego.

WHS Young Investigator Award Winners

Sandra Saja Scherer (ETRS Travel Award winner), Harvard Medical School (Denis Orgill Lab)
Joshua Vorstenbosch, McGill University (Anie Philip Lab)
Edward I. Chang, Stanford University (Geofrey Gurtner Lab)
Arturo R. Maldonado, University of Cincinnati (Timothy Crombleholme Lab)

This award recognizes scientific excellence of Young Investigator Trainees in the area of wound healing research.  The selection process involved identifying 8 outstanding abstracts for podium presentations in a special session at the WHS Annual Meeting from a pool of approximately 100 abstracts submitted by trainees.  The 4 top scoring presenters were recognized as the Young Investigator Award winners.  The criteria used were scientific content, originality, clarity of presentation, response to questions, and impact on wound healing research.  The awards consisting of a certificate and cash prize were attributed at the 2008 WHS Annual Meeting.  In addition, the highest scoring presenter from the 4 winners will have the honor of representing the WHS at the 2009 Annual Meeting of the European Tissue Repair Society (ETRS). 

WHS Blue Ribbon Award Winners:

First Prize:            Richard Nuccitelli and Team, BioElectroMed Corporation, Burlingame, CA
Second Prize:             Nick Goldspink and Team, Renovo plc. Manchester, UK
Third Prize:            Dale Telgenhoff and Team, Healthpoint, Ltd., Fort Worth, TX

This award recognizes excellence in science at poster exhibits by industry members at the WHS Annual Meeting.  Each year, two or three winners will be chosen by the WHS Awards Committee based on the poster presentations’ scientific content, originality, clarity, impact on wound healing research, and response to judging committee’s questions.
